KNOW THIS BRAND: RIMOWA

One of the best ways to beat the January blues is to have an amazing trip planned that you can look forward to. I’ve always been firmly against luggage with rollers, but with German company Rimowa, founded in 1898, an exception is well deserved. You can tell a lot about a man by his luggage. Rimowa’s sleek, lightweight and tough line-up gives the impression of transporting expensive photography equipment, even if it’s just spare socks. And that might come in handy in baggage claim, when you finally have a chance to talk up that beauty from the flight. Top pick would go to the Topas style, featured above, priced around $1,200 for the 32″ model. Available at select stores, for a full list click here. And don’t be afraid to personalize it with a few well placed badges: (more…)

ERNEST ALEXANDER BANKER’S BAG

This is a sweet bag. Made with sturdy waxed canvas and dark brown English bridle leather. It’s the framed opening on the top that sets it apart from other duffel bags, making it easy to get your essentials in and and out. There are 5 beautiful colors to choose from but charcoal gets our nod for the winter. Banker’s Bag, $485, available at Ernest Alexander.

LOTUFF & CLEG DUFFEL

WEEKEND BAG BY ROYAL REPUBLIQ

Inspired by antique leather soccer balls from 1947-1950, this bag from Royal Republiq is the perfect size for a weekend getaway. The Amsterdam & Copenhagen based company has a fascination and respect for vintage, high quality leathers and the “Ball” bag is just one of many beautiful heritage pieces you can find on their site. BEST OF: ZARA

I just returned from a two week trip to Italy and Spain and found it interesting to see the differences between Zara in Spain and here in the U.S. Despite the intimidating Euro, prices can still be cheaper in Europe, which was a surprise. Take the jacket above, my favorite item in the Zara store in the massive Madrid airport. It was priced at 99 euros, or $143 dollars based on today’s (more…)

THE MAINE GUIDE ROLLING DUFFLE

I finally broke down recently and bought luggage with rollers. I didn’t like the look of pretty much everything out there and always just carried everything over the shoulder. An upcoming trip to Italy and Spain with kid in tow made that no longer possible. The Maine Guide Rolling Duffle is the perfect size, you do need to check it, but fits tons of clothes and gear. The look is rugged and the waxed cotton fabric durable. It doesn’t quite look like a roller, with subtle handle and wheels. If you’re in the market, this is a good choice. $250, available at LL Bean.

FILSON SPORTSMAN BAG

A lot of guys have difficulty finding a bag that fits their style. They carry either a stuffy black briefcase regardless of the situation, a trendy and tired messenger bag, or worse, rely on an old backpack. Filson out of Seattle has been making great bags since 1897 and this versatile sportsman bag gets our nod as a top summer pick. It’s a rugged, all-around workhorse that can take you from the office to the gym, looks damn sharp and gets better with age. $295, available at Barneys.
