THE MAY COVERS

Here’s a quick look at the covers of the May 2011 men’s magazines that recently hit newsstands.  Most play is safe, with 6 of 8 featuring actors from newly released films.  Esquire with Abbie Cornish for “Sucker Punch,” which has been out forever, GQ with Zach Galifianakis for “Hangover 2,” Details with Mark Ruffalo, Maxim with Jordana Brewster for the franchise that will never end, “Fast 5,” Men’s Health with Chris Hemsworth for “Thor,” and Men’s Journal (still in publication) with Eric Bana for the underwhelming “Hana.”  Interview and V Man play true to their readership and go the less traditional route with Lil Wayne and Kanye West as an ATM machine.  Who will grace the cover each month is one of the most important decisions editors make and can make each month and drives newsstand sales.  It will be interesting to see how this rather motley group fares.  Who do you think did it best this month?
