I just returned from a two week trip to Italy and Spain and found it interesting to see the differences between Zara in Spain and here in the U.S. Despite the intimidating Euro, prices can still be cheaper in Europe, which was a surprise. Take the jacket above, my favorite item in the Zara store in the massive Madrid airport. It was priced at 99 euros, or $143 dollars based on today’s conversion rates. That same jacket is priced at $189 on the Zara U.S. website. So while I avoided lugging it back, it cost me a bit. Here’s what sets it apart: the silhouette: shorter in length and cut trim, the fabric: a heavier cotton/nylon techno blend that feels ruggedly modern, the details: military epaulets on the shoulders, double pocket on the front, great collar.

Also of note were the impressive bags:
Travel bag – perfect for weekends or used as an overhead bag for flights but a bit too large for everyday use as a briefcase. $89.

Tan Briefcase, $79. Great color, a bit smaller than I would like so it feels kind of precious when carried. Maybe that’s your thing.

Bowling Bag, $89. Smallish but in a tougher fabric and color combination. Feels like a Filson bag but less heavy.
